What is mental illness?

 What if I told you your anxiety or depression was not a "disorder" or a "mental illness"? What if I told you your anxiety or depression was natural?

Have you ever had a doctor say "Oh, you have crippling anxiety? That's normal, next issue."? The answer is a strong no. These issues exist, some of us experience them, but how we treat them can be challenging. 

Imagine if instead of a magic pill or paying someone to hear you cry, we treated the issues causing it. Our perception of reality allows us to manipulate it. Take a great example, The Placebo Effect, this has "cured" illness, "stopped" chronic pain, and "healed" wounds. But the Placebo only works because our brain is convinced of its reality to do what we are told it does.

Meditation as well, can control our bodies. Heart rates have been slowed to death like levels, bodies have survived starvation, and even extreme reports of levitation have all come from meditation.

Do you expect a band aide to heal a wound that needs stitches? Of course not. But we would expect a pill to "fix" our depression or anxiety? Ask more questions! Why? Why do we have the depression? The doctor may say, "A chemical imbalance." And that may be true. But ask WHY! Why do I have a chemical imbalance? Why and How did it happen? Why do I need this pill and How can my body fix this?

Could meditation be the answer for finding inner balance with anxiety or depression? Maybe. Maybe it will only be an additional tool to add to medication and talking to a therapist.
